Are You Afraid of the Dark? Season 3 Wrap up and Top 5

The Midnight Society for Season 3

Wow what a season, season 3 turned out to be! It has some of the best episodes of the series so far, and the stories only get darker from here on out folks and I couldn’t be any happier. Let’s take a look back on what I would consider a turning point in the series. So grab your ice cream treats and a chocolate bar.

We lost two members, Kristen and David. They presumably are now in a long distance relationship somewhere in the Greater Toronto or Greater Vancouver metropolitan area. In the words of The Gary “Well, friends come and go, and I am sorry to say that two of our good friends, have gone. David and Kristen’s families have moved. We won’t hear their stories anymore (thank god), but they will always be members of the Midnight Society. We’ll miss them.” This somewhat begs the question, do they consider Eric as a member of the Midnight Society still (obviously apart from Betty Ann). But this opened up two membership positions and gave us two new members.

Let’s meet the two new members: Tucker

dangerous soup 3
Tucker

Tucker is The Gary’s younger brother, who got into the Midnight Society by default due to the fact that if he did not get in, The Gary would no longer be able to attend meetings. This was met with Frank saying “We are not babysitter, members got to tell stories.” and Kiki adding “No way.” However not all was lost, Betty Ann accepted him and even saw him as a younger brother figure (at least this is what I think due to the way she treats him). Tucker’s initiation story, The Tale of the Midnight Ride, was kind of lame and possibly one of the worst stories of Tucker’s Midnight Society career. However he makes up for it with The Tale of the Guardian’s Curse, which is one of my favorite stories. He is also my future ex-husband but he changes his ways and become a more caring and thoughtful brother to The Gary, maybe he won’t be an ex-husband.

Samantha: The second member we got is a friend of Betty Ann (So you know she has credentials as I am almost certain to get Betty Ann’s approval must be hard).

SAAM
Samantha aka Sam

I have to say it was funny how they all reacted when they realized that this “mystery guy”, as Kiki put it was a girl. Sam’s initiation story was excellent. Her first story The Tale of Watcher’s Woods, is a classic episode in my opinion, however her other stories are vastly different from this one. We do not know much about Sam’s backstory other than her character is somewhat of a mix between Kristen and Kiki. She takes fashion tips from Fred of Mystery Inc (she likes to wear bandannas like ascots, maybe Kiki should show her how to properly wear them). She presumably goes to the same school as Betty Ann and by association Frank. Which makes me wonder why Frank never noticed her at school, hanging out with Betty Ann. Maybe Frank and Betty Ann do not have homeroom together anymore, this also means that there is a chance that Sam also knew David and Kristen. Frank is instantly smitten to her and constantly hits on her, to the annoyance of Sam, he goes as far as saying “I want to go out with you next Friday.” I am surprised that Frank did not try to get Betty Ann to hook him up with Sam. Sam also awakens The Gary’s interest in girls, and he is barely able to contain his erection when he first meets her. While Kiki is somewhat antagonistic toward Sam, she develops a strong bond to her later on in the season, almost replacing Betty Ann as Sam’s friend.

Whenever you see a sarcastic or sassy comment that is my evil twin Moira and she does it when she is sleepy or hungry. For whatever reason most of it is toward Betty Ann.

Now it is time for Moira’s Top 5.5 Episodes of Season 3

The scale is simple: 1= best episode and 5= must watch or highly recommend

  1. The Tale of the Dangerous Soup
    1. Storyteller: Frank
  2. The Tale of Apartment 214 and The Tale of the Bookish Babysitter
    1. Storyteller(s): Kiki and Betty Ann
  3. The Tale of Watcher’s Woods
    1. Storyteller: Samantha (Sam)
  4. The Tale of the Guardian’s Curse
    1. Storyteller: Tucker (My future ex-husband)
  5. The Tale of the Carved Stone
    1. Storyteller: The Gary (My future ex-brother in-law)

Honorable mentions: You should watch if you got time.

  1. The Tale of The Dollmaker
    1. Storyteller: Betty Ann
      1. Reason: This is a good story, but I felt it was not as good as the above mentions. I like that Betty Ann has a Tucker doll and that she is the prank queen of the Midnight Society.
    2. The Tale of the Dream Girl
      1. Storyteller: Sam
        1. Reason: While this is a good story, Sam started strong with Watcher’s woods and this is almost the complete opposite of that in that this story does not have a “villain”, rather Sam is going with the notion that love can be a scary thing.
    3. The Tale of the Curious Camera
      1. Storyteller: Betty Ann
        1. Reason: This has one of the best openings of the entire series. I feel that we as viewers really get a sense of the type of friendships within the Midnight Society and I liked that we got to see their childhood photos. I am not positive if they are real photos, but I have a feeling they are, and that is a great touch.

Notable Guest Stars of Season 3: Neve Campbell, Danny Cooksey, Frank Gorshin, Jewel Staite and Eddie Kaye Thomas

So what did you think about season 3? I hope you all enjoy my summaries this far as I enjoyed watching each episode and writing up these summaries. Up next is Season 4, which is our last season with my future ex-fiancee Frank. But I still have Tucker for the rest of the run and the reboot for season 6 and 7.

Until next time…. Submitted for the Approval of the Midnight Society, I call this story: The Tale of Moira’s Afraid of the Dark? (But not really): Season 3 wrap up and Top 5 blog.

I would like to interview *cough*Ross Hull or Raine Pare-Coull or Jodie Resther, *cough* I feel that if enough people tweet at them or Facebook them, and let them know about this blog, it can happen! Let’s make my dream come true!
